Inauguration of the Ludger & Amanda Michel University Commons
For over a year, students at the University of Sudbury have been enjoying the beautiful first floor lounge where they can study, eat, socialize and rest between classes. On Thursday, September 20th, we welcomed the family who made it possible to renovate the space for the inauguration of the Ludger & Amanda Michel University Commons.
Mr. Arnel Michel is very well-known in the community as the former owner of Gloria's Restaurant and A & J Home Hardware, as well as Ludger Michel Estates Limited. He was a member of the University of Sudbury's Board of Regents from September 1991 to September 2002, and was then nominated to Laurentian University's Board of Governors in 2002, where he is still an active member.
The Honourable Gérald Michel began his law career in 1962 and was appointed to the provincial court bench in 1968, where he served for 42 years. Judge Michel is a Collège du Sacré-Coeur alumni who was recently selected as Chancellor of the University of Sudbury's Board of Regents.
The Michel family is recognized in the community for their generosity and we thank them for their continued support.
Located within the Ludger & Amanda Michel University Commons, students and employees on campus may access the André & Maureen Lacroix Spiritual Service Centre.
Maureen Lacroix was, for many years, a member of the University of Sudbury's Board of Regents and Laurentian University's Board of Governors. She is involved with a number of organizations within the community, in particular those related to the hospital and cancer research.
André Lacroix was Chancellor of the University of Sudbury's Board of Regents for many years. He is a partner at Lacroix Forest, a local law firm that made a significant financial contribution to the ethics bursaries a few years ago.
We recognize their contribution and support at the University of Sudbury and are thankful for their commitment.
