Bizhaak Anishinaabe-Gkendaaswin Wii-Gkendmek Indigenous Studies Summer Camp

From July 2nd to 4th, 2019, the University of Sudbury, in partnership with the Rainbow District School Board, hosted 24 students for the Bizhaak Anishinaabe-Gkendaaswin Wii-Gkendmek (Come to learn Nishnaabe knowledge) Indigenous Studies Summer Camp! This camp was open to Grade 7-8 Indigenous and non-Indigenous students from Rainbow Schools.

The camp was offered in English and promoted Indigenous values and knowledge to youth through traditional teachings and land-based learning, as an extension of the hands-on experiential learning approach offered by the Indigenous Studies program at the University of Sudbury. The cultural camp offered a fun and open environment to participate in a number of cultural workshops, such as traditional teachings, a medicine walk, painting and more!

The University would like to thank everyone who helped make the camp a great success.
