Application deadlines:

Note: To access funds in this category, applicants are only required to fill out a general financial aid bursary application, once per term. Students can apply for this financial aid for both the Fall and Winter terms (i.e. twice in one academic year).
To qualify, you must:
- Be taking at least 6 credits at the University of Sudbury in the current academic year.
- Fill out and submit an application form, before the deadline!

- Scored an average of 75% or more; and
- Fill out and submit the application form, before the deadline!

$3,000 non-renewable bursary
The new Bursaries for Postsecondary Studies in French as a Second Language (FSL) Program encourages young, English-speaking Canadians to enhance their bilingualism while studying in a field of interest.
Under the slogan “It’s rewarding to be bilingual!”, the Program highlights the several benefits of pursuing postsecondary studies in French as a second language:
- Achieving lifelong bilingualism
- Opportunity to expand knowledge about the Francophone culture
- Better employment opportunities
- Improved wages
To qualify, students must:
- Be Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada, and at least 17 years old on the first day of class
- Have English as their first official language spoken and have graduated from an English high school
- Be enrolled in the first year of an undergraduate program offered in their second language (French)
- Be enrolled full-time, and participate in at least 50% of their courses and related activities in French (placements, etc.)
- Be enrolled in at least 6 credits offered by the University of Sudbury in the current academic year
To apply, students must:
- Provide a transcript certifying that they have taken French-language courses at high-school, college or university levels in Canada, for a minimum of two years
- Complete a general University of Sudbury Financial Aid form (seen higher up on this page)

Normand Forest Leadership Program
Associated scholarship: up to $1,500

CONTINUING SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INDIGENOUS STUDENTS ($5,000 to $7,000 PER YR)
OVERVIEW INFO
There are a couple different continuing scholarship opportunities for Indigenous students. They are SUBSTANTIAL, as they offer a chance to receive $5,000 to $7,000 per year, until undergraduate degree completion! The bit of time and effort to submit a one-time application can reap big benefits.
Filling out our general Financial Aid Bursary form (seen higher up on this page) can give you access to one of these opportunities. It is IMPORTANT, however, to read the section below for the Rotary scholarship, as other steps need to be taken for this big opportunity.
Eligibility:
Generally, to be eligible for these continuing scholarships, you must be an Indigenous student pursuing full-time studies (minimum of 24 credits), you must be taking at least 6 credits offered by the University of Sudbury, and you must meet certain other criteria, depending on the individual scholarships (can vary year per year), so be sure to complete forms and application steps with care (seen in the sections immediately below).
Recipients who continue to meet the criteria and remain in good academic standing will continue to receive their yearly substantial amounts until they complete their undergraduate degrees.

Taking a few minutes to submit an application as outlined below could give you $5,000 per year until you finish your undergrad studies! The return on investment is huge, so take advantage of this opportunity!
To qualify, you must:
- Be an Indigenous (First Nation, Métis or Inuit) student pursuing full-time studies in any program within the Laurentian Federation;
- Be registered in at least the equivalent of 6 credits per year at the University of Sudbury;
- Be in your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year of studies;
- Maintain a full course load equivalent (24 credits) and remain in good academic standing.
Steps:
- submit a general University of Sudbury Financial Aid bursary form (available by clicking on button seen further up on this page)*;
- provide a recommendation letter from a professor, band council member or employer;
- click the below button to access and complete the Rotary Scholarship Fund form - you will need to briefly explain your motivations, initiatives and career goals, and summarize your financial needs;
- submit all information and documentation by the deadline.
* If you have already submitted this form during the session in question, you do not need to fill it out a second time when applying for this scholarship. We will have your info on file.
Recipients who continue to meet the criteria and remain in good academic standing will continue to receive their yearly amount until they complete their undergraduate degree.

List of SCHOLARSHIP AND BURSARY FUNDS
THE SACRED HEART COLLEGE ALUMNI BURSARY
This bursary is awarded to a francophone student; it was founded in 1969 by the Sudbury Chapter of the alumni of Collège du Sacré-Coeur.
THE J.A. LAPALME BURSARIES
These bursaries, awarded to one francophone and one anglophone student, recall Mr. J.A. Lapalme of Sudbury, who died in 1969.
THE CHARLES DAVIS MEMORIAL AWARDS
A legacy of Mr. Charles Davis of Sudbury, who died in 1973, these bursaries are awarded preferably to students preparing for Catholic Ministry or concentrating in Religious Studies.
THE ELIZABETH BRUYERE AWARD
Established in 1999 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Collège Notre-Dame.
THE HECTOR L. BERTRAND BURSARIES
This fund, begun by his friends in 1976 to honour Rev. Hector L. Bertrand s.j., is intended for Indigenous students enrolled at the University of Sudbury.
THE ROBERT FABBRO BURSARY
Established in 1997, the Robert Fabbro bursary was founded in order to help students who are in financial need.
THE IGNACE OF LOYOLA PARISH BURSARY
Founded by the Ignace of Loyola Parish to help students who are in financial need.
THE INES MOGA MEMORIAL AWARD
Established by the children Ines Moga in 1997, these awards are granted to women students, preferably enrolled in a program in Religious Studies.
THE LUCIENNE R. GIROUARD MEMORIAL AWARD
Established in the 1990's by her family and friends in honour of Mrs. Lucienne R. Girouard, mother of Fr. André Girouard s.j., it is intended to help francophone students at the University of Sudbury.
THE JOAN HILDEBRANDT AWARD
Founded in 1997, by Mrs. Joan Hildebrandt, the bursary is granted on the combined basis of spirituality, scholarship and financial need.
THE AILEEN GRASSBY MEMORIAL FUND
Established in 1996, by her husband, family and many friends in honour of Mrs. Aileen Marie Bettesworth Grassby, a long-time friend of the University and of the University Parish. It is intended to help women students at the University of Sudbury.
THE LACROIX, FOREST AND DEL FRATE FUND
The University of Sudbury offers a substantial number of bursaries to Ontario residents enrolled in courses approved by the University of Sudbury Ethics Project. Some of these are available thanks to the generosity of the firm of Lacroix, Forest and Del Frate.
THE AIMÉ AND BERTHE LAFRENIÈRE BURSARY FUND
This fund was established in 1996 and was previously known as the Aimé Lafrenière Bursary Fund. Thanks to the couple's children, this fund now honours both Mr. Aimé Lafrenière (1936-1992) and Mrs. Berthe Lafrenière (1941-2017), benefactors and members of the Board of Regents.
THE J.W.E. NEWBERY BURSARIES
Honouring the founder of the Department of Native Studies (now Indigenous Studies) since 1979, these bursaries are for students enrolled in a concentration in that department.
THE ROSE DAVIS MEMORIAL AWARDS
Recalling Mrs. Rose Davis of Sudbury, who died in 1983, these bursaries are for all categories of students.
THE BAXTER AND ALMA RICARD FUND
Mr. Baxter Ricard was a leading Sudbury businessman and entrepreneur, dearly remembered for his generous interest in education. After his death, his wife Mrs. Alma Ricard set up the Foundation to help Northern Ontario students. In 1997, she created a fund at the University of Sudbury to encourage and give financial support to students who would concentrate on the study of ethics and values.
THE RICHARD RIOPEL MEMORIAL AWARD
Founded in 1987, this bursary recalls Richard Riopel, former Principal of Hanmer Secondary School. It is awarded to a francophone student, preferably a graduate of Hanmer Secondary School.
THE JOHN AND LORRAINE SAHADAT FUND
Established in 1997 to mark Professor and Mrs. Sahadat's commitment to academic excellence. It is also intended to encourage students in financial need who are demonstrating progress in their studies.
THE SCEPTRE AWARD
Established by Sceptre Investment Counsel Ltd. to help students when they need it most.
THE HON. GEORGE E. COLLINS MEMORIAL AWARD
This bursary is awarded to a student in the junior years, enrolled at the University of Sudbury, and studying at the School of Sports Administration or in the department of Law and Justice. It was founded in 1994 by his family and his many friends to recall the Hon. Judge George E. Collins of Sudbury (1914-1994).
THE ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING CHAPTER OF THE I.O.D.E. SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship is awarded to a deserving student in recognition of the volunteer help offered by the students of the Lucien Matte Residence.
THE CAROLE LANGLOIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, awarded to a full-time student, recalls Mme Carole Langlois of Espanola who died in 1990.
THE JEAN-d’AUTEUIL RICHARD SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, awarded to a full-time student, was founded in 1992 by his friends to recall Rev. Jean-d’Auteuil Richard’s Presidency, 1966-1977.
THE JOSEPH PAWLOWICZ MEMORIAL AWARD
In memory of Mr. Joseph Pawlowicz, father of Mr. Stanley Pawlowicz, a former member of the Board of Regents.
THE ALFREDO PAGNUTTI SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship, awarded since 1993, is a legacy of Mr. Alfredo Pagnutti of Sudbury, who was a member of the Board of Regents from 1960-1977.
THE RICHARD AND RUTH FEE FUND
The generosity of Richard and Ruth McGinnis Fee, who were well-known and respected citizens of Sudbury, has since 1966 enabled the University of Sudbury to offer a substantial number of scholarships and bursaries to students of the University of Sudbury.
THE COLLÈGE DU SACRÉ-COEUR CLASS OF 1956 BURSARY
Intended for a francophone student, this award was established by the alumni of the class of 1956.
THE FONDATION SACRÉ-COEUR
The Fondation Sacré-Coeur manages a bursary fund consisting of donations made over the years to Collège du Sacré-Coeur to help students in financial need.
THE UNIVERSITY OF SUDBURY ALUMNI BURSARIES
Founded in 1996 by alumni of the University of Sudbury College and Lucien Matte Residence.
THE UNIVERSITY OF SUDBURY COLLEGE COUNCIL BURSARY
Founded by the University of Sudbury College Council to help students in financial need.
THE UNIVERSITY OF SUDBURY GENERAL FUND BURSARY
Established during the Fundraising campaign of 1997, this fund comprises various bursaries.
THE UNIVERSITY OF SUDBURY STAFF BURSARY
Established in 1997, this bursary comprises donations made by Board members and by all the University's staff.
THE SOCIETY OF SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL - ST. KEVIN'S CONFERENCE BURSARY
Established in 2016, this bursary will be awarded to two deserving students in the Religious Studies program at the University of Sudbury.
THE FAITH UNITED MILTON BURSARY
The Faith United Milton Bursary was established due to the generous donation of the Faith United Milton Church. This bursary aims to support Indigenous students with education expenses during the course of their full-time studies within the Laurentian Federation.
THE ROTARY INDIGENOUS SCHOLARSHIP FUND
The Rotary Indigenous Scholarship Fund was established at the University of Sudbury due to the generous donation of the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar and the Rotary Club of Oakville Charitable Trust. This scholarship is meant to assist Indigenous students in meeting their financial needs during the course of their full-time studies within the Laurentian Federation.
THE DR. CONSTANCE ELAINE JAYNE WILLIAMS AND CHARLES L. WILLIAMS EDUCATIONAL TRUST SCHOLARSHIP
Established in 2017, this scholarship will be awarded to an Indigenous student pursuing full-time studies in the Indigenous Studies program at the University of Sudbury, from any of the following Ojibway bands: M'Chigeeng First Nation, Aundeck Omni Kaning First Nation, Wikemikong Unceded Indian Reserve, Sheguiandah First Nation, Sheshegwaning First Nation.
The BURSARIES OF THE FONDATION SACRÉ-COEUR
THE MSGR AUGUSTE VAILLANCOURT BURSARIES
Msgr Vaillancourt (1909-1991), a priest of the diocese of Sault Sainte-Marie served for many years as Pastor at Sacré-Coeur, Parish in Sturgeon Falls. A devoted alumnus of Collège du Sacré-Coeur, he set aside monies over the years to help young Franco-Ontarians from the diocese receive a university education.
THE CHARLES LANGLOIS BURSARIES
These bursaries were set up thanks to a legacy of Fr. Charles Langlois (1863-1919), who died as Pastor of Sacré-Coeur Parish in Sturgeon Falls. They were intended to help French Canadians pursue their studies.
THE MSGR STÉPHANE CÔTÉ BURSARIES
Between March 1931 and his death in July 1952, Msgr Côté regularly contributed to setting up these Awards. He was Pastor of St-Joseph’s Parish in Chelmsford and a staunch supporter of the educational ideals proposed at Collège du Sacré-Coeur. With the awards, he wished to help young French-speaking Ontarians from this diocese afford a university education.
THE MSGR CHARLES PARENT BURSARIES
In 1940 Msgr Parent, then Pastor at Saint-François-Xavier Parish in Tilbury, Ontario, began this fund to help Francophones from the London diocese complete their higher education in Sudbury.
THE ALBERT PELLETIER BURSARIES
Fr. Albert Pelletier was Pastor of Saint-Michel Parish in Rouyn, Québec, when he donated this scholarship in 1944. He intended it to help young Francophones from north-western Quebec.
THE HENRI GAUTHIER MEMORIAL BURSARIES
Fr. Henri Gauthier, s.j. (1879-1958) was on the Faculty of Collège du Sacré-Coeur from 1916 to 1952 as Professor of Science and of Letters, Dean of Studies, and Spiritual Advisor. His many students and grateful admirers set up this fund to help perpetuate his ideals and his memory.
THE MSGR RACETTE BURSARIES
Msgr Oscar Racette (1880-1964), was involved in the founding of Collège du Sacré-Coeur in 1913 and continued over the years to be a strong promoter of its mission. While Pastor at Saint-Jean-Baptiste Parish in Verner, he made repeated donations, in 1953 and 1954, to help young French Canadians.
THE MSGR ZÉPHIRIN LORRAIN BURSARIES
In February 1954, Msgr Lorrain, then Pastor of Sainte-Bernadette Parish in Bonfield, Ontario set up a fund to allow deserving teenage francophones of the Pembroke Diocese to continue studies in French in Sudbury.
THE MÉLINA LÉVESQUE BURSARIES
Convinced of the importance of higher education, Mme Mélina Lévesque left a legacy to Collège du Sacré-Coeur to attract French-Canadian youth from the Sault Sainte-Marie Diocese.
